One of many historical portraits of Marilyn Monroe is presented here, constructed from small paper fragments from discarded prints. The numerous fragments give the otherwise classic figure a raw and composite expression, while the strong yellow background evokes thoughts of a worn, painted facade somewhere in the city. The work revolves around the roles and images we try to maintain outwardly. Behind the neat surface lies a person with humor, resistance, longings, and a desire to break the mold. The bubblegum bubble becomes a small but significant rebellion against the notion of how a woman should behave and appear. Collage and mixed media created with recycled paper, paint, and texture-creating materials. Lacquered/matte finish.
